Avoid the blind spot of modern boating

Two XXL performances in two days!

We waited for the initial wave to pass before bringing it up.

Last Sunday, Thomas Coville and his crew aboard Sodebo pushed the envelope of the Jules Verne Trophy with a time of 40 days, 10 hours, and 45 minutes.

Then on Monday, Alexia Barrier and her crew of The Famous Project set the first benchmark for an all-female crew on the course in 57 days, 21 hours, and 20 minutes.

Athletically and humanly, these are breathtaking feats 🤩 Especially since both boats, after braving the Roaring Forties, were caught in storm Ingrid upon their arrival.

Let’s highlight Thomas Coville’s words, though. Shortly after crossing the finish line, he explained that their boat was still in almost flawless condition 36 hours before arrival. Knowing this, the Sodeboys dared to push through the storm, weighing up the risks to keep damage to an acceptable level. “On a knife edge,” he said. That final sprint enabled them to snatch the record with a margin of 12 hours.

On the other hand, the Idegirls have had their fair share of mishaps with their trimaran. Technical issues began in the South Atlantic, with their mainsail hook. And on the home stretch, that mainsail was unable to withstand the storms of the North Atlantic, eventually tearing in two. This obviously does not detract from the achievement of Alexia Barrier, Dee Caffari, and crew. It was their first attempt, a shakedown, and we bet it won’t be their last!

For each of us, at our very own level, this highlights how much a boat in good condition can make a difference, and not just when things take a turn for the worse.

Whether you’re going out for your usual spin, heading to the island just offshore, or enjoying a week-long cruise, a boat is a technical craft that requires maintenance. Not only for your own enjoyment on the water, but also for your safety and that of your crew.

👉 Achieving your goals will require the cooperation of your boat in addition to that of the weather ☀️

We have this experience. Because it is only by ensuring thorough maintenance that we’ve been able to successfully sail 65,000 miles around the world without any major damage.

And with Ready4Sea, we have designed the toolkit that allows you to cast off with peace of mind. Because you will have done everything possible to ensure everything technical is in good working order (and this also applies before setting off on the road with your motorhome!).

Avoid the blind spot of modern boating. Leave the dock with a seaworthy boat.
